On October 20th, Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi reiterated that she would not rely on "deficit-financed debt" to fund the food sales tax cut. This followed previous comments that had sparked speculation of a possible shift in her stance. On Monday evening, Takaichi stated that while she did not rule out issuing government bonds to fund the overall national budget, she would not use deficit-financed debt to fill the revenue gap caused by the temporary sales tax cut. She wrote that the governments position "remains unchanged." Takaichi explained that she clarified this because some media reports seemed to have misinterpreted her remarks made earlier on Monday in the Diet. During a meeting of the House of Councillors Budget Committee, when asked about how to raise funds for the sales tax cut, Takaichi had stated that she did not rule out the possibility of issuing government bonds. On October 20th, Futures News reported that Australian mining company BHP released its production report for the third quarter of 2026 (first quarter of fiscal year 2027). Google will clearly label medical facilities in the United States that provide abortions in search results and Google Maps to avoid misunderstanding with anti-abortion groups, the company's CEO warned lawmakers on Thursday.

In a letter to Senator Mark Warner and Representative Elissa Slotkin, Google's vice president of government affairs and public policy for the United States and Canada, Mark Isakowitz, stated that when consumers search for "abortion clinics near me," the results box will display verified establishments that offer abortions.

According to Isakowitz, the internet giant will also permit users to put non-abortion-performing organizations in their search results.

Google's response came in response to Warner and Slotkin's June 17 letter urging Alphabet (NASDAQ:GOOGL) Inc Chief Executive Sundar Pichai to prevent false Google search results that steered people to anti-abortion centers.

Following the overturning of Roe v. Wade, more than half of U.S. states have or will seek to outlaw or restrict abortions. The states, including Idaho, Texas, and eleven others, have passed "trigger" laws forbidding abortions upon such a finding.
