Copernicus Climate Change Service: Global temperatures continue to rise above 1.5°C, making this September the second warmest September on record. On October 12th, DBS Group CEO Shushan Chen stated that the market is reassessing the risks associated with investments in artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure, which could lead to a more cautious AI financing environment. She said, "The market has sent a signal. This isnt a bad thing, because investors are now demanding higher returns and paying more attention to financing structures." Chen pointed out that the market is examining whether the large amounts of capital invested in the AI capital expenditure ecosystem can generate sufficient long-term returns to ultimately repay debt, bond, or equity investors. DBS believes that some weaker companies may face the risk of credit rating downgrades. However, Chen believes this risk repricing is "healthy" because the market wants to ensure that large-scale AI investments are sustainable and have long-term profitability. She stated, "The market is confirming whether these huge investments are truly sustainable." Chen revealed that DBS has participated in approximately $20 billion in AI-related transactions this year, mostly as the lead arranger for syndicated loans, but the bank itself only holds a small portion of the risk exposure.A subsidiary of Indonesias state-owned oil company, Petronas, signed a purchase agreement with Italys Eni to acquire interests in three oil and gas blocks. On Monday, October 12, the Hang Seng Index opened 223.58 points higher, or 0.92%, at 24,434.93; the Hang Seng Tech Index opened 43.23 points higher, or 1.03%, at 4,241.07; the H-share Index opened 81.45 points higher, or 1.0%, at 8,229.32; and the Red Chip Index opened 12.18 points higher, or 0.3%, at 4,061.13.Hang Seng Index futures opened 0.85% higher at 24,398 points, a premium of 187 points.

S&P 500 Technical Analysis

The S&P 500 initially pulled back during the trading session on Tuesday to reach to the 200-Day EMA. The 200-EMA is of course an area where a lot of people pay close attention to, especially as it is near the 4000 level. The 4000 level is obviously a large, round, psychologically significant figure that people will pay close attention to. If we break down below there, we could break down to the 50-Day EMA, but the fact is that we have so much in the way of noise out there and events over the next couple of days, it’s difficult to get overly enthusiastic about anything.

At this point, we have to think about the FOMC Meeting that is going on over the next 48 hours. The market will have to wait to see what Jerome Powell has to say, and whether or not he squashes risk appetite. I think he will try to do so, but it’s worth noting that the market has completely ignored him for the most part. On the other hand, and if they do something to really spook the market, we could see a significant selloff.

The bullish case scenario is they completely ignore him and break above the 4100 level. Breaking above the 4100 level opens up the possibility of a move to the 4200 level. Either way, I think there is going to be a lot of choppy volatile markets. With that being the case, I think you get a situation where you need to be cautious and nimble, and probably wait until after the press conference on Wednesday as there will be a lot of shenanigans played between now and then by options traders pushing the market around.
